Casino Steel & Honest John Plain from 1970’s UK punk band The Boys have renewed their partnership in a new punk supergroup, playing Ramones-influenced rock’n’roll with a hint of Dolly Parton! The Last Rock ‘N’ Roll Band, who released their debut on 10 October 2007, comprise: Casino Steel vocals/keyboards -The Boys, The Yobs, Gary Holton & Casino Steel, The Hollywood Brats, Casino Steel & The Bandits, Ian Hunter’s Dirty Laundry Honest John Plain vocals/guitar -The Boys, The Yobs, The Lurkers, The Crybabys, Mannish Boys, Ian Hunter’s Dirty Laundry, Honest John Plain & The Amigos Petter Baarli guitar - Backstreet Girls, Ratcats, Slips, Johnny Thunders Band Robbie Rushton drums – Whizz Kids, Captain Sensible, The Crybabys, Honest John Plain & The Amigos Mat Sargent bass – Chelsea, Sham 69, Honest John Plain & The Amigos, Splodge Casino Steel had been in the influential Hollywood Brats, who formed in London in 1972 around the songwriting partnership of Steel and Andrew Matheson and later joined legendary UK punk band London SS. Steel & Plain went on to form The Boys with Matt Dangerfield, Kid Reid & Jack Black. The Boys were amongst the first wave of the UK punk explosion in the mid 1970’s and became the first UK punk band to sign an album deal in January 1977. Highly regarded by the music press and their contemporaries, their pop approach and use of harmonies led to their description as ‘The Beatles of Punk’, with their debut album entering the UK charts in September 1977. Steel left The Boys to hook up with his good friend Gary Holton and as Holton/Steel they enjoyed considerable success across Europe. Honest John Plain went on to form the Crybabys with Darrell Bath and Robbie Rushton and they were voted “Best New Band of 1991” by the readers of Kerrang Magazine. Plain & Rushton formed Honest John Plain & The Amigos with Mat Sargent in 2003. The band played two European tours building up a considerable live following, releasing the “One More And We’re Staying” album in April 2006. Sargent has played with Sham 69 for many years enjoying a UK Top 10 hit with “Hurry Up England” in 2006. Petter Baarli has worked with Steel on numerous occasions over the years, but is best known as the guitarist in The Backstreet Girls.
